What do you mean it doesn't count?

I took three days off from running last week to go camping in Acadia NP with Nicole. Instead of running, we hiked through the park, walked all over downtown Bar Harbor, and took a 2 1/2 hour kayaking tour in the Atlantic. Not a bad workout, right? I asked my coach if the cross-training counted, since I hadn't had a chance to run. His response? "No." Well, it was fun, and I have some good pictures. Now back to marathon training!

The heat wave and humidity finally broke! Sunday I ran 6 miles, and felt pretty good. It was only about 70 degrees, and I chose a fairly shady course. Despite this, I was pretty dehydrated by the end of the run. I've gotten lots of tips and tricks for running long distances from various coaches and runner's magazines over the years, and I think I need to start putting some of these into practice. The most important, I think, is to stash water bottles along my route. I'll let you know how it turns out.
