Day 16

Slow day.

Weather has affected the schedules of all the trades, and the subsequent inspections required for each stage of the job.

Good news, though. Both the speakers and the range hood will be here on Monday, so we’ll be ready when the drywall arrives later next week.

New insulation started.

Days 14 and 15

Bit of a setback with the weather. Storm started around 3 pm on Monday afternoon.

IMG_2498_safe

Less than 1/4 mile visibility

Blizzard conditions on Interstate 95 on Tuesday

IMG_2506_safe

After about 26 hours, conditions were reduced to winter storm.

Early Wednesday morning, the storm finally stopped. The snowplows were kind enough to deposit 3 more feet of snow at the base of the driveway, after it had been cleared.

Still more electrical work…

IMG_2485_safe

Only four bulbs, and lots of light!

IMG_2483_safe

Our new electric panel

IMG_2484_safe

Yeah, I know. Electricians don’t spell very well.

IMG_2481_safe

Best part of today… my new tile arrived!

IMG_2482_safe

Recycled glass tile, with some very subtle color variations.

Day 11

Electrical work was continued today.

IMG_2477_safe

Temporary bulbs were put into the recessed cans, so we had some light in the new space.

IMG_2478_safe

Light switches.

Finishing touches done on my kitchen window.

Day 10

Electric rough-in started today. Lots of recessed lighting, and placing of boxes for the ceiling fixtures.

IMG_2471_safe

A neat, clean job. Electrician is very particular about how wires are run.

IMG_2472_safe

Recessed lighting in the living/seating area, to be accentuated with a some well placed floor lamps.

IMG_2473_safe

IMG_2474_safe

Everything is meticulously labeled.

IMG_2475_safe

Two recessed cans over my window seat. This will be my favorite spot to curl up.

IMG_2470_safe

Outside, window trim and siding was fixed. Yes, we will have a two-tone house for a bit, but the drafts are gone!

Day 9

Week 3

Timing is everything. Today was sunny, windless, and unseasonably warm at a balmy 41° F. Perfect day for new windows.

IMG_2458_safe

Out with the old,

In with the the new.

IMG_2460_safe

My favorite part is the new window over the soon-to-be kitchen sink. I now have a much expanded view into the backyard.

IMG_2461_safe

I will no longer have to crawl on top of the counter to see what’s happening back there.

IMG_2463_safe

IMG_2468_safe

Ample light in the new space.
