What do you mean, we’re not done?

Spent the last three weeks picking out fabrics (and  furniture) for the new kitchen space.

The window seat was already finalized – green print for the seat itself, and the other fabrics for comfortable, squishy pillows.

But then we still had to find comfortable counter stools and figure out what to do with the rest of the room.

Brought a bunch of fabric samples home to “test” in the space. This leather was a huge contender, but eventually lost out to two other grays.

Yeah, the kitchen already beginning  to look lived in.

Final choices!

The End is Here!

After three tries, we found a pantry designer who actually listened to what we wanted for storage needs.

Shelves, wine storage, hooks.

IMG_2945_safe

More shelves, bins for potatoes and onions, and a small space in between the shelves where the vacuum fits perfectly.

IMG_2946_safe

A couple of pull out shelves for the heavy appliances.

Snow finally melted enough that the Blackdog sign reappeared. I tried to recover it, but it was still frozen to the pile.

IMG_2949_safe

Slightly filled, but we still have a long way to go to reorganize and make it perfect.

The final building permit was signed off on Monday, and the last of the punch list items were completed. The space is finally ours!

Floors and Fruit

The last coat of poly was applied on Friday, which meant we had to spend the night out. Now it’s socks only for a couple of days, and Libby gets to wear little doggie booties.

Found an antique dough bowl (apparently they are very trendy right now) that I’ve re-purposed for a fruit bowl. Seth is excited. It’s the one thing he asked for in the new kitchen.

Day 51 – The End is Near!

Major portion of the remodel has finally finished. There are a few minor “punchlist” items to be completed, the final coat of poly has to go on the floor, and the pantry install is scheduled for April 2, but the appliances have been installed and we once again have a functional kitchen.

Of course, there’s no food in the house…

We’ll be spending the next couple of days figuring out where to put everything.

The faucet was one of our favorite purchases.

IMG_2908_safe

The decision of what to prepare first turned out to be easy…first thing prepared in the new kitchen: coffee!

50 Days of Construction

Plumber was tied up on another job, so hopefully tomorrow we’ll have working appliances.

Today it’s all about light and sound.

IMG_2886_safe

Edison bulbs create a beautiful amber glow for accent lighting.

IMG_2887_safe

Ooh. Ambiance.

Steve (with a little help from me) tackled the stereo install today, starting with the ceiling.

IMG_2889_safe

Added the subwoofer,

IMG_2893_safe

Sub amplifier and integrated amp plus DAC,

IMG_2894_safe

Power filter,

IMG_2900_safe

and even managed to tuck the Sonos in the corner. Almost like we planned it.

Last, added all the grilles.

Wow.  The sound is incredible.

Day 49

Closing in on the end…

IMG_2875_safe

Had to keep the vintage rotary phone.

IMG_2885_safe

Steve’s favorite part of the day. Icy driveway is ours!

IMG_2876_safe

Pale green blown glass pendants,

IMG_2877_safe

and a closely matching ceiling fixture for the sink.

IMG_2878_safe

IMG_2879_safe

New customizable doorbell – we’re still trying to figure out what song to use.

IMG_2880_safe

Power on the island. I had to sit on the floor to take the photo, so it really is quite hidden.

IMG_2881_safe

IMG_2882_safe

Once it got dark, we could check out the overhead LED lighting.

Day 48

Final pieces are falling into place, and frankly, it’s stunning.

IMG_2863_safe

Tile and grout made all the difference.

IMG_2864_safe

IMG_2865_safe

No longer any excuse for burning food.

Under cabinet LEDs.

IMG_2868_safe

Pantry light was one of the few things we saved from the old living room.

IMG_2869_safe

IMG_2870_safe

Front entrance fixture will probably work better after I  get light bulbs.

IMG_2873_safe

So glad I splurged on the 12″ pulls.

IMG_2874_safe

And yes, that is still over a foot of snow in the backyard.

Day 47

Final days are close, but Rob is having a little difficulty getting the last couple trades to commit to a schedule. Not sure we’re going to finish on time.

IMG_2853_safe

New paint in the old room. Can’t wait to have the makeshift kitchen out of here.

Rob had to play hardball with the tile guy to get him to come back with enough time for the hood install.

IMG_2858_safe

Hood is perfect. Tile has a few problems that will be fixed tomorrow.

IMG_2859_safe

IMG_2862_safe

Shelving added to the large cabinet.

Day 46

Second coat of paint. Color still changes from gray to blue to green, but it’s so much….more.

Recycled glass tile. Beautiful on its own, and will complement the granite quite nicely. Well, it will when the paper is gone.

IMG_2844_safe

IMG_2846_safe

IMG_2845_safe

Seven days of constant melt. Seven days until spring. Seven days until the end of the project.

And best of all… seven days until Anniversary #25.

Day 45

IMG_2816_safe

A little color goes a long way.

IMG_2819_safe

Crazy. As the light changes, the same paint changes from gray, IMG_2821_safe

to green,

IMG_2822_safe

to blue.

First appliance!

Painters are doing a great job – they even caulked around the beam  to fill the gaping holes. Almost completely masks the warp.
